“A Doctor’s Confession to the City of Boulder…” And why, despite all, I still do what I do…

Confessions are tough. Real tough. But, sometimes a confession can set the record straight, and I want to give credit where credit is due. Before I talk about my confession, though, let me say a few other things first.

Let me start by explaining the photo in this letter. You know, when I meet people in town they usually say, “Oh, yeah, I know you, you’re Dr. Danny. I’ve seen your ad with that picture of you and the cute little boy.” Well, I’m the guy on the right.

Seventeen years ago something happened to me that changed my life forever.

I was only fourteen years old, but I remember it like it was yesterday. That’s when my allergies “showed up” and ruled my life. For months my eyes would be blood red, and watery. My nose ran all the time and I would go through boxes and boxes of tissues each week. And, that’s not all.

The allergies started to affect my schoolwork. It was hard to pay attention. I didn’t know what to do, and neither did my mom. But then, something really exciting happened.

My mother had just started school to become a doctor. One of the things she insisted on was that I get my spine “adjusted.” So, one of the doctors at mom’s school did an exam, took some films, and then “adjusted” my spine. The adjustment didn’t hurt, it actually felt good. Within a few weeks my allergies disappeared and have never returned. Oh, by the way, my mom was in chiropractic school! And, get this…

What really amazed me was what happened next. One day I hit a baseball farther than I had ever hit one before. I even made it to the All Stars that season! I asked my mom if a healthy spine could help me play baseball better and she said that it would make me do everything better. As I continued to get my spine worked on my life changed so much, and I was so impressed with chiropractic, that I went to chiropractic school myself.

My wife and I have a son, little Danny. My wife is Dr. Richelle (also a chiropractor). Richelle received spinal adjustments throughout her pregnancy and labor. She had a 5-hour labor and it was her first birth! Studies have shown that labor times of women who have had chiropractic care are on average half that of women without chiropractic care. Danny has received regular adjustments since the first few minutes after birth, he is breast-fed and has never had a sick day in his life. He is also darn cute!

It’s strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their allergy problems.
