You know, everyday I meet people who struggle with drugs. I used to struggle, too. And in many ways, I still do. Let me tell you my story. 

Seven years ago something happened that changed my life, forever.

I was a pharmacy student and worked at an up and coming pharmaceutical company. Then, one day, while working in a long-term care facility, I saw her. It was the woman who would change my life. That woman was way over medicated, and called to me. “Please help me!”, she said, as I watched her fall out of her bed to the floor. I ran to her side, and at that moment, I realized that my profession wasn’t helping her. And, that’s not all.

I made a decision that day. So, after much thought and research, I found a way to help people without drugs, and without surgery. I became a chiropractor. So, these days I no longer put pills in a bottle. In my new profession, I have a similar kind of battle. Now, it’s a battle to educate people that drugs are not always the answer. People actually think that they can’t live life without drugs. Let’s face it, as a society we are ‘hooked’ on drugs, both the illegal and the legal ones. Most people don’t know that it’s the legal ones that kill many times more people than the illegal ones.

The ‘quick fix’ mentality (not a true fix at all) is still common, but the good news is that things are changing. People just like you are getting smarter. I recently read in USA Today that the pharmaceutical industry is now rethinking their strategy, because the medical profession and prescription drugs usually only deal with symptoms, and not the cause of sickness. Chiropractors have dealt with a cause for 105 years now, and have never wavered. And guess what! Now there are more visits to ‘alternative’ health care providers than ‘traditional’ ones. 

Years ago chiropractic actually changed my life, and now I do my best to help nurture others back to health. Now people come to me with headaches, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allergies, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, just to name a few.

Oh, about the photo. Daniel, my 1-year-old son and he has never taken any medication. He is the healthiest little boy I know. I was under chiropractic care throughout my pregnancy, and what a difference it made! Most women have aches and pains when “with child”, but I felt phenomenal the entire time. But that’s not the best part. I was in labor for only 5 hours and I had no medication at all. Can you believe that? Studies have shown that labor times of women who have had chiropractic care are on average half that of women without chiropractic care.
